He is the man of simplicity, gentleness and firmness, if he is to be briefed. Moulana M.A Abdul Khadir Musliyar, who is the scholarly granded and a venerable person, the president of the Sunni Educational Board of India, a personality who has been up to the brim for the last six centuries in the religious, educational and socio cultural arena of Kerela. He was born to Kuriya Abdulla Haji at Udumbunthala and Mariyam of Nalupurappad Tharavad, Trikaripur, Kasaragod Dist, Kerala, as the eldest son on 1st July 1924. His home was known as the abode of Mukri, since the family bore the religious leadership of the Mahallu for the last three centuries. In fact M.A is the abbreviation of this Mukrinte Avide. After obtaining primary religious Knowledge from his grandfather Abdul Khadir Haji and his uncle Ahammed Musliyar he was decorated with the position of ‘Mudarris’ for about 35 years at Kaikkottukadavu Juma Masjid. He got his formal education up to 5th standerd from Udumbunthala Govt. L.P School. He completed his ‘Dars (basic theological practice) under Hafil Sayyed Sahul Hameed at Biricheri. He acquired Knowledge in Urdu Language during his Dars from N.C. Abdul khader Musliyar who was the mudaris of the nearby place. He has received ‘ijasaths’ (spiritual consent) from several sheikhs. From among those, the great Ezhimala Sayyid Hamid Koyamma Thangal, Chavakkadu Kadappuram Sayyid Muhammed Kunhikoya thangal, brother Mahmood Hibathulla thangal, Kottayam Aboobacker Haji, Chappanangadi Bappu Musiliyar, Kakkaidippuram Aboobacker Musiliyar, Pangil Ahmed kutti Mulsiyar, Panayikulam Abdul rahman Musliyar, Moulana Quthubi Muhammed Musliyar, Sheik Yahyaa- Kabul – Hijasi and Sheik Ali Ubbu Ummer Haddad Fathhullah are the prominent ones. He married Khadeeja, the daughter of his uncle Ahmed Musliyar in 1955. Nafeesa, Kunhahammed, Beefathima, Abdul Vahab and Juvairiyya are the off springs. Usthad was a part time Mudarris (theology teacher) at the adjacent Mettammal Masjid during his studies at Biricheri. He undertook the complete control of the dars at Udinoor from 1973 for a year. The beginning of Usthad’s public activities was with the political problem existed just before the independence. In fact it became in full swing on getting a memebership in Samastha Kerala Jamiyathul – Ulama in 1947 inspired by Palot Moosakkutty Haji (PBUH). Haji was involved in organizing the Ulamas in North Malarbar. He showed unstinted efforts to make the people aware of the newly spurting out betrayed movements. T.K. Abdulla Moulavi, T. Aboobacker Muliyar, Panoor Kunhimoosa Musiliyar, and K.V Usman Sahib are among his team. He wrote an article in the primary introductory news paper, The Al-bayan of Samastha in the month of February 1951, in which he advocated the idea of the madrassa movement. As a result the subject was discussed in the 19th Annual meeting of Samastha in 1951, which led to the formation of Samastha Kerala Islam Matha Vidyabhyasa Board.
Usthad was one of the founder members of the board. He became the general secretary of the Sunni educational board in 1989 and thereafter has been serving as its president. Presently his role is extended to the national level as the president of the Islamic Educational Board of India. The authors of the first text book approved by the board were late Paravanna Moideen Kutty Musliyar, T.K. Abdulla Moulavi and M.A Abdul khader Musliyar. It was the usthad who was the founder president of Payyannur range Jam-iyathul Mu-allimeen, first of its kind in Kerala, in 1958, aiming a public platform for madrassa mu-allims. Later in 1985 state branch of Jamiyathul mu-allimeen formed catching hold of the same step. The usthad was the first vice president and later the general secretary. Besides, usthad was the chief planner and the founder of the mu-allim welfare committee which was the pivotal subsidiary branch of the central committee. When the united Kannur District branch of Samastha Kerala Jamiyathul Ulama came in to practice in 1971 usthad had been its secretary and thereafter the kasaragod district General Secretary after division and presently its president too.
He has been the member of the Central Mushavara (Decision Making Body of Samastha Kerala Jam- iyyathul Ulama) since 1974 and vice president since 1989. Another feather on his head was the formation of the SYS (Sunni Yuvajana Sangham), the organization meant for youth and elders to work for and on behalf of Sunnath Jama- ath. He was the state committee member from the inception in the year 1954 since he master minded the formation. Later he became the president in 1983. His office lasted up to 1996. During his tenure, SYS got enrooted in both rural and urban areas of Kerala. Apart from the above, usthad extended his dedicated service as the convener of the Masalaihal Muslimeen which was formed by the ulamas and philanthropists in the undivided Kannur district after 1972 thalassery riot. When the late Kallatra Abdul Qadir Haji, a man with a mission to uplift muslim community in a manifold manner, thought of starting an educational complex, the usthad and his team was contacted to be entrusted with the design, supervision and administration. It was in the year 1971, Jamia Sa- adiya Arabiya started in Kizhur near Chembirika and later it was relocated to Deli, the present stage of operation. The usthad was with the Haji round the clock to realize his dream of establishing an educational hub with all the modern facilities in a spiritual and moral fiber. After Haji’s bodily separation, his family supported usthad in an unprecedented manner to go ahead with further expansions.
Usthad has been the General Manager of Jamia Sa- adiya. Thus Sa-adiya has been the living monument of his creative and intellectual contribution for the Muslims in particular and the entire society and the nation in common. Now he is the driving force behind many movements of modern and moral education in and outside India. Thajul Ulama Sayyid Abdul Rahman al Bukhari (Ullal), Sheikh Aboobacker Ahmad and Chithari Hamza Muliyar are the prominent members of his team for such a wonderful knowledge revelution in the country. Usthad identified himself as a prolific writer in his age of twenty. He authored many books in Malayalam as well as Arabic.
Many of his sheikhs stood before him as constant motivating forces in the field of writing. Many issues resolved and a lot many ideas have been generated from his ink. Usthad was a column writer in the Albayan Noorul islam, Hidayathul Mu-ameens Anburahan, Al- muallim, Sunni times, Sunni voice, Sunnath, Adda- ava, etc. He was a member of the publishing committee of Sunni Times and Adda-ava. Usthad was the author of several articles which were published in a number of periodicals besides around sixty books with his own title. Many awards and titles sought after usthad for his eternal contributions for the betterment of society.
